I’m Kim. A writer, artist and teacher from London.

I was born in Southampton. Six weeks early. I was very tiny and very quiet. Six weeks later, on the exact day I was supposed to be born, I cried for the very first time. From then on, the only way to keep me quiet was to read me stories. My mum would carry huge piles of books into the lounge and we’d sit together for hours. I loved books, I loved music, I loved art and I especially loved drama.

After graduating from the University of Exeter with a degree in Drama I went straight to work as a drama teacher. Working in schools from primary through to secondary, I wrote and directed school plays, developed sensory drama sessions for early years and spent weekday evenings driving around Southampton delivering drama workshops in youth centres and theatre clubs.

I spent nearly every other minute writing about music. After accepting the job of Editor for a new online music magazine I moved up to London, won some awards for my work and then went freelance as a music journalist and editor, contributing to NME, Time Out, BBC Radio 1, 6Music, The Line of Best Fit, Clash and many more. I started the When I Heard You podcast. And I even joined a band: FEMME.

After seven years writing about music every day I began to secretly fill notebooks with stories, drawings, collages and poems. I swapped late night gigs for late night art classes, built interactive installations and performance spaces at festivals and decided to find a way to combine my writing and art with creative education and drama.

I’m now running drama and craft workshops through London and beyond. I work in schools, galleries, youth centres and more, leading sessions on poetry, illustration, drama and theatre, creative writing and art.

I currently hold residencies at The Bright Emporium and Clapham Books. I’m also a member of Bigfoot Arts Education, working to enrich core curriculum subjects with drama, art and music. I regularly devise bespoke workshops and am always happy to discuss new ideas – please get in touch and see all upcoming workshops here.

I’m also busy writing and illustrating my first picture book. Take a look at some of my work in the pictures section of this site.
